ABOUT
Sasha A. Khan (@sashathechurel) is an independent feminist scholar who writes about queer and trans transnational and diasporic South Asian and Muslim critiques as well as Disability Justice. They divide their time between Boston, MA and their hometown of Islamabad, Pakistan.
Published in various academic journals, Sasha's scholarship can be accessed through any of the following links. Most recently, "Letter-Poems to Shauki Masi: Diasporic Queer South Asian Muslim Reflections on the Five Pillars of Islam" was published in Meridians in 2021. Their textile-essay, "Autoimmune: A 'Medicinal History,'" is featured in Disability Studies Quarterly in 2020. With Lzz Johnk, Sasha is the co-author of "'Cripping the Fuck Out': A Queer Crip Mad Manifesta Against the Medical-Industrial Complex", which was published in 2019 in Feral Feminisms . They also penned a book review that appeared in Feminist Formations and textbook sidebars about western sexual exceptionalism and queer/trans Muslim activism for the 7th edition of Gendered Voices, Feminist Visions, edited by Janet Lee and Susan Shaw. Sasha next scheduled presentation, "Gupshup with Ghosts: A Haunted Praxis of Embodied Storytelling," will take place in May 2024 at the virtual congress of the 20th International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (ICQI). Previously, Sasha has presented conference papers, facilitated workshops, and participated on round tables at various academic conferences including the National Women's Studies Association (2020, 2019, 2018), the Society for Disability Studies (2020), the Association for Asian American Studies (2019), Lewis & Clark's Annual Gender Studies Symposium (2019, 2018), UC Davis' Queering Care & Cure conference (2018), the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association (2017), and Arizona State University's Trans*Studies conference (2016). Sasha went to the United States to attend college at the age of 15. They accumulated several degrees including a B.S. in Liberal Studies from Clarkson University and a M.A. in Gender & Cultural Studies from Simmons University. Additionally, Sasha was a doctoral candidate in the Ph.D. program in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Oregon State University until they resigned in complaint in 2020.
